What a difference a day makes. Sunny, warm at Bradders today blowing 18kts when I arrived just after midday and the river was flattish. 5 wings, 2 foils and 2 fins today. Wing is the most popular here now and they were going very well. The wind was funnelling down the river from Mistley end so was pretty clean, although there were lulls when it swung NW sometimes. Couldn't decide on size, cos in the gusts it was white caps. Started rigging 7.8, but switch to my Duotone 8.3 S pace as the 15kts were pretty regular. Still experimenting with foil setups, so switch the 95+ fuse for the 115+ with 1100 FW/ 330 stab set at -2 as the gusts were strong.
Launched straight off up and foiling in around 15 kts straight to Wrabness almost running broad down the river with hardly any power in the rig. Absolutely brilliant, turned and headed straight to Mistley, which must be a mile away full on foiling with the wind now 20kts and white caps about. This setup is teh best, so far for me as a heavy weight, because the 1100 freeride take off is waay better than the 900 race wing. When foiling there was no kangarooing (like yesterday) and I didn't have to pump - so I guess the -2 on the 330 stab kept the board level. This was this best foil session I have ever had. Mainly due to the clean wind varying between 15/20kts flat water and sunny. Lord James on his wing has definitely sussed the straight line stuff, standing up all day, only wiping out on jibes. 2 other foilers were shifting on the flat water and Nick on fin, looked a proper slalom pro. This will be my go to setup from now on, and will park the 95 + fuse / 900 FW, which are great, but I like the jumbo jet 115+ fuse with the 1100 front wing setup, which whistles on the take-off to a scream when flat out, then as it land the whistling gently stops as it lands with a ridiculously low stall speed, still foiling. I tried it twice and I could walk faster than the stall speed as I sheeted out. My only gripe is the mast track is right at the end of the track, nothing left, and I still have too much back foot pressure and hardly any front foot pressure, which cause knee pain over longer distances, so may have to fit the -1 spacer to give more front foot pressure. Shame really. All gybes failed and turned into a flare gybe. Out 3hrs covering 39.82 nm (should have looked at my GW-60 watch and get to
40nm! Max speed on the GW60 was 21.70 kts, my best so far I think. Big wide boards are OK, but at speed, they need an enormous amount of pressure, to correct levels. Burnt almost 2000 cals in the 3 hours constant sailing, with HR maxing 157, so nice workout. Only packed up as they all went in, and I only noticed the tide had turned around 5pm. Had a little mud to walk thru. Shame cant make Sunday - as shame forecast.
